Bette Bulletin
Thank you all for your support of Bette — it really is very much appreciated! As you can see from the many comments posted after the first Bette Bulletin, Bette is a remarkable person, and we all love her.
Bette has a new oncologist, or cancer specialist, for whom she has a great deal of respect. Her new doctor is very knowledgeable and serves on several national boards and committees that dictate treatments, updates, and new discoveries in treating colon cancer. Bette’s doctors also determined that she actually has cancer of the appendix, not the colon. However, they are very similar diseases that are treated in a similar way.
Bette is scheduled to be starting treatment today with a combination of chemotherapy drugs. She will continue to have chemo every two weeks, with constant monitoring of her treatments and progress to determine the best course of action.
In a few weeks, after the second round of chemotherapy, Bette should have a better idea of what her reaction to the drug therapy will be. After that, she may be able to make a decision about when she can return to work and other important activities.
Please continue to keep Bette in your thoughts and prayers as she begins her treatments, and leave some words of encouragement in the comments below. As Bette said after reading the first round, “Thanks for the best medicine anybody could receive.”

Bette-
You are thought of every day with great affection, and we are waiting to hear some good news from your corner of the world. You are the first name that comes up when we hear from the vets, and you are considered a friend to them all. You have given them- and us- a great gift of yourself and your time. We keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Hang in there!

Bette; when I was on the Honor Flight plane coming back to Chicago, the envelope of letters from loved ones was extremely important to me. I sincerely hope that you recieve this letter (and others like it) in the same vien and as an indication of how very much we appreciate you and your work at Honor Flight. We all sincerely hope that you hang in there and recover. You are a special person and you are needed.

Bette,
I received two phone calls last night from veterans wanting to know how you were doing and if they could come do anything to help you. We are all here for you if you need anything or want to talk, cry, laugh or just need a friend.

Bette,
Your sweet voice telling me of my Sept 9th 2009 flight to D.C. I shall never forget. I praise you, ans all the staff every chance I get sacrifices you all give to us veterans. It is a shame that good people like you have to endure the awlful pains of cancer, but I believe that the good Lord will take care of you, and bring you back to good health. I have talked to 5 of my leigionare friends to sign fo flights in 2010. My prayers will always be with you take care, and may God bless. Thank you for the memories. Matt

Dearest Bette,
You were the one who informed me that I would be on the May 18, 2009 Honor Fight, an experience that I’ll never forget. You must know that all of us who are so indebted to you are rooting for your speedy recovery. You are remembered and loved by all of us who shared the news that we would be honored by so many wonderful volunteers and supporters. With all the support and love of all of us, I know that you will hang in there and recover from your illness. It’s our way of thanking you.

Bette – I just became aware of the struggle that you are enduring and want to add my good wishes to those of all the other Vets. One of the best phone calls I ever received was from you. I am so appreciative of all of your efforts on behalf of the World War II Veterans. My trip to Washington, D.C. is something that I will cherish all of my life. Thank you for your part in it. You will be in our prayers each day. We will look forward to hearing of your progress. God Bless You!
Thank you – Joe
